August 2008: eBay Announces More Major Changes
By Lisa Suttora | August 23, 2008
Wednesday morning, eBay announced several major changes to occur on the site over the next few months.
There are major changes to Fixed Price listings, Media category listings, eBay Express, Shipping Charges and much, much, more.
I have a complimentary audio recording for you of a class that I just recorded on Wednesday night regarding these changes.
==========================================================
But before you download this FREE class, please read BELOW to find out what the class is about.
==========================================================
Within 7 hours of Wednesday’s announcement I was on the phone with the Members of WhatDoISell.com for an IN DEPTH 3 hour class to:
==> Explain the new policies
==> Clear up misinformation running rampant in public forums
and most importantly…
==> To share new strategies on how to make these policies work for all eBay businesses (both large and small)
==> I also answered 43 excellent questions that came in from our members about these changes.
To give you an idea of the complexity of these changes, I covered the entire 12 foot surface of my desk with FAQ pages and notes detailing the changes.
I also spent 2.5 hours in a meeting with eBay on Wednesday morning clarifying these policies.
=====================================================
I’m now making a copy of the recording of this LIVE event available to you for FREE.
======================================================
To listen to the complimentary recording of this class, click here.
All I ask from you in exchange for this 3 Hour WhatDoISell.com EXCLUSIVE Audio Training Intensive(tm) is that you tell me your #1 question about selling online.

Want to Make a Bundle on Amazon This Holiday Season?
By Lisa Suttora | July 26, 2008
With the release this week of the stellar Q3 Amazon.com earnings report (Amazon earned an amazing $158 million dollars in the quarter ending June 30) - came some other good news. A strong percentage of Amazon’s sales are coming from 3rd Party Sellers. Independant business owners who use Amazon as their selling platform to connect with millions of customers worldwide.
Despite daily reports of a sputtering economy, Amazon made money. And a LOT of it. With gas prices climbing, free time at a premium and an unsatiable consumer hunger for value, variety and selection Amazon’s quarterly report shows that people are still spending.
And spending a lot on Amazon.
With the holidays fast approaching, now is the time to try selling on Amazon. Especially if you sell in the toy category.
But if you’re going to participate in the holiday selling season on Amazon. You have just under two months to qualify. Read the rest of this entry »

Important Change Affecting Your Custom eBay Listing Templates
By Lisa Suttora | July 26, 2008
At eBay Live 2008 it was announced that eBay would be redesigning the View Item page ( AKA the listing description page) for release this Fall. The new View Item page will incorporate many design improvements based on buyer input as to how they use the View Item page, what they like about it and what they don’t like.
One of the key changes that was originally announced and would have affected hundreds of thousands of eBay sellers with custom designed listing templates was that the View Item page would be moving to a 710 pixel fixed width.
This meant that if your template width was wider than 710 pixels, it would no longer fit correctly on the new eBay View Item page.
This has been devastating news for sellers who have spent hundreds of dollars on template design and branding or who have spent many hours creating their own templates.

It’s Time to Get Ready for Back to School Sales!
By Lisa Suttora | July 5, 2008
For those of you living in the US, I hope you are enjoying your long 4th of July holiday weekend!
I always experience a ‘mindset’ shift on the 4th of July, because even though we are just starting to see some sun here in the Pacific Northwest, mentally I’m already thinking about the back-to-school selling season and preparing for holiday sales.
As an online retailer, you always have to think two seasons ahead in order to be primed and ready when your customers hit the Web looking for in-season products.
Now if you’re like most people, you might think that the back-to-school shopping season starts mid-August, right before the kids head back to school. But there has been a significant change in buyer patterns which affects your planning for back-to-school sales. Read the rest of this entry »

Why BusinessWeek’s Article Poured Fuel on the Wrong Fire
By Lisa Suttora | June 7, 2008
Last week’s article in BusinessWeek titled “Auctions on eBay: A Dying Breed” was another attempt by the media to pour fuel on the flames of eBay’s fire. I get it. Stories are meant to sell magazines. And a generalized story is easier to write than one that actually weighs the facts.
However, when millions of people are reading an article that effects their livelihood, I think it’s important not to oversimplify and generalize a situation that effects hundreds of thousands of business owners.
Now I don’t have the readership that BusinessWeek does (although if you click the I Love Social Networking button below this post, you can instantly expand readership of this blog!)
but there are thousands of loyal readers who read these posts - which is why I want to get the message out. Read the rest of this entry »

Is it better to Have Loved and Lost Than Never to Have Loved at All?
By Lisa Suttora | June 2, 2008
Over the past 13 years, eBay has accomplished something that most other companies would give anything for and pay any amount for… They were able to get their customers emotionally involved with their company.
Companies spend billions of dollars trying to get their customers to care about them. To become passionate about their brand or their product. To think about them, talk about them, want to be a part of the company experience.
Most have little or no success. And customer apathy is the kiss of death to any company.
Whether it was planned on their part or not - eBay was able to make people fall in love with them… Read the rest of this entry »

Toto, It’s Not the Old eBay Anymore
By Lisa Suttora | May 22, 2008
With the recalculation of feedback on eBay.com this week and the announcement of several new policy changes, comes another glimpse the future of eBay.
There’s been a lot of talk on blogs and in discussion forums about how different eBay is these days - that they are veering away from the ‘old eBay’ - the original vision that Pierre had when he started the site.
eBay now feels different, acts differently, works differently, and interacts with it’s community much differently than it did “back in the day”. A lot of people miss the old eBay. It was a different place. Read the rest of this entry »
