Important Change Affecting Your Custom eBay Listing Templates
By Lisa Suttora | July 26, 2008
At eBay Live 2008 it was announced that eBay would be redesigning the View Item page ( AKA the listing description page) for release this Fall. The new View Item page will incorporate many design improvements based on buyer input as to how they use the View Item page, what they like about it and what they don’t like.
One of the key changes that was originally announced and would have affected hundreds of thousands of eBay sellers with custom designed listing templates was that the View Item page would be moving to a 710 pixel fixed width.
This meant that if your template width was wider than 710 pixels, it would no longer fit correctly on the new eBay View Item page.
This has been devastating news for sellers who have spent hundreds of dollars on template design and branding or who have spent many hours creating their own templates.
That’s why I’m thrilled to say that eBay has revisted the 710 pixel fixed width requirements and the new page will be designed with “floating width”. Floating width means that the listing page will adjust to fit the width of your existing template.
The bottom line?
If your listing template works in the current eBay View Item page environment, it will work with the new View Item page as well.
Now here’s something else that is equally as important. I have verified this information with the eBay in a meeting between eBay program managers & eBay Certified Providers that is held every two weeks.
WhatDoISell.com is an eBay Certified Provider. One of only 30 Certified Providers worldwide. Part of our participation in the Certified Provider program means that we have access to clarifications and information on eBay policies that others don’t.
(And just for the record this doesn’t mean we agree with all the eBay policy changes, but it does mean we report them accurately and can develop new business strategies that will work WITH the new policy changes.)
We won’t publish any eBay policy clarifications unless they have been verified.
There is a tremendous amount of misinformation and speculation circulating on the free discussion boards. And sadly I have seen people spend weeks redesigning their business model on one piece of inaccurate advice that they’ve read in a free forum.
With the tremendous amount of changes happening on eBay, depending on information from free forums is a risky way to run your business.
Recently, we created an audio training class titled “eBay 2008 and Beyond“. In it, I detail all the current and upcoming policy changes that will be happening on eBay for the rest of 2008 and into 2009.
We also provide you with sales and marketing strategies to integrate now in light of these new changes.
If you’re confused, overwhelmed and tired of trying to keep up with the changing eBay policies, you need to get a copy of eBay 2008 & Beyond.
We’ll do the work of keeping you up to date on the policy changes and you can get back to the business of running your business!

I was all excited reading this article and was happy that I found a link containing proper informed information regarding eBay policy etc.
Then only to find out that I need to pay for information that should be free for a site I pay on to list, sorry but this does not sit well with me, That’s my opinion

Hi Tibor,
I understand your frustration over the lack of clarification from eBay on the upcoming policy changes.
Even as an eBay Certified Provider I spent several days pouring over multiple eBay websites, sitting in on more than 4 hours of eBay Certified Provider meetings, sending emails to eBay clarifying policies, and then analyzing the information and putting it into a timeline.
And THAT was before I had all the information I needed to sit down and create strategies that will work now for today’s eBay sellers.
You’re right - it shouldn’t be this complicated to sell on eBay - but it is right now.
And that’s why I spent almost two weeks putting together this audio training and 25 page workbook (along with ongoing updates).
Because there are too many people who are spending all their time each week trying to figure out what the policies are and also making bad decisions on free and inaccurate information found on the web.
The information and strategies that are in our eBay 2008 & Beyond report go beyond anything that else that is available on the market today.

Oops…sorry I barged in here. I thought this was an informative article but I see its just an advertisement. I’ll wait until Ebay explains itself…and if they don’t, I just won’t list
