WhatDoISell.com was founded in 2004 by CEO Lisa Suttora with the goal of helping online sellers learn what to sell online and how to source it.
In 2001, Lisa walked away from 6-figure job, as a single parent of a 4 month old and a 4 year old, determined to create an online business that would allow her to stay home and raise her children.
Lisa knew that the fastest way to start a business was to leverage her existing skills, so she parlayed her background and experience as a retail buyer for J.C. Penney and her career in the technology industry (as a Unix Systems Administrator for a large software company) to start a business in the fast-growing world of ecommerce, selling on eBay and Amazon.
With her online stores growing rapidly, Lisa soon found that people in her local community wanted to know “how to do what she was doing”. The most frequently asked question being “I want to sell online, but I don’t know what to sell. What should I sell?”
After holding impromptu “how to sell on eBay and Amazon” classes in the parking-lot of her son’s pre-school, Lisa made the consulting arm of her busine
ss official.
Once again leveraging the Internet, she created WhatDoISell.com in order to be able to teach her unique product sourcing methods to a global audience.
The Premiere Global Sourcing Community
WhatDoISell was the first global sourcing online community centered around what to sell online and how to source it. WhatDoISell.com quickly grew and expanded to teaching ecommerce entrepreneurs what to sell and how to sell it online.
In 2005, eBay heard about the exclusive sourcing methods Lisa was teaching and the success her students were having, and invited her to speak at their national conference eBay Live!.
Wowing the standing-room-only crowd of 1200+ with her exclusive sourcing methods including “The Product Sourcing Mindset”, “Idea Hotspots” and “Power of 10 Product Sourcing” Lisa became recognized as the authority on the topic of what do sell online and how to source it.
Lisa holds the honor of being the only speaker on the subject of sourcing to speak on eBay’s stage 5 out of the last 6 years.
She has also presented her exclusive sourcing methods at the Ecommerce Summit, Armand Morin Live!, New Life Event, RocketPlace! Lynn on Location, and at her own local events held in Seattle, Washington.
She is a frequent guest on radio including eBay Radio, Entrepreneur Magazine’s Product Sourcing Radio, The John Martin Show, and has taught more than 2100 webinars and teleseminars on the topic of product sourcing, ecommerce marketing, online business strategy and entrepreneurship over the past 8 years.
She has contributed to several books and publications including, Auctiva Commerce, AuctionBytes.com, Practical Ecommerce, Entrepreneur Magazine, Shop, org Briefs, “eBay Inventory the Smart Way: How to Find Great Sources and Manage Your Merchandise to Maximize Profits on the World’s #1 Auction Site “, as well as co-authored a best-selling product sourcing book “What to Sell on eBay and Where to Get It”.
